Whole Oceans President, COO Jason Mitchell departs company

Jason Mitchell, the chief operating officer and president of Whole Oceans, has apparently departed the company.

Mitchell started at Whole Oceans in May 2018 as the company’s COO, and was later named president in October after the former CEO, Rob Piasio, departed the company. Recently, the company announced that Jacob Bartlett, the CEO of Whole Oceans’ parent company Emergent Holdings, was stepping into the role of CEO of Whole Oceans.

Whole Oceans is planning a USD 250 million (EUR 227 million) land-based recirculating aquaculture system, which will produce salmon, in Bucksport, Maine. The company has, according to former CEO Piasio, already sold “10 years of total production” at the facility, which has been estimated to have a capacity of 5,000 metric tons of salmon annually.

Mitchell was to remain in his role as president of Whole Oceans, but has apparently left that role. Mitchell’s LinkedIn profile now reads that he is a “free agent” after working at Whole Oceans for one year and four months.

Whole Oceans’ staff page, as well, no longer lists Mitchell. A spokesperson confirmed with SeafoodSource that Mitchell is no longer with the company, but could not elaborate.

The departure marks the third time in two years that the leadership of Whole Oceans has shifted. The company recently submitted its application for a building permit in Bucksport.
