Worldwide Perishables Canada sold to Kuehne + Nagel

Canadian seafood export company Worldwide Perishables Canada has been acquired by Kuehne + Nagel, according to a release from Kuehne + Nagel.

Kuehne + Nagel, a global transport and logistics company based in Switzerland, announced the acquisition on 24 July. The company sites Worldwide’s significant perishables exports – more than 17,000 tons per year out of Canada – as a reason for the acquisition.

“The company is one of the largest freight forwarders in the country and a top player for perishables cargo being the market leader in tuna export,” Kuehne + Nagel said in its release.

Greg Martin, the regional airfreight manager for Kuehne + Nagel North America, said that perishables are a significant growth driver for the company.

“Thus, we have been continuously investing in the expansion of our dedicated network: Through selected acquisitions and by connecting key production countries to major markets,” Martin said. “Setting up global certified standards which are reflected in our KN FreshChain solution, has further strengthened our perishables network worldwide, making it the largest in the industry.”

Worldwide Perishables Canada was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Since its founding, the company has grown to be a leading exporter of perishables in the seafood market, particularly tuna.

“We are looking forward to joining the Kuehne + Nagel Group,” Doug McRae, COO of Worldwide Perishables Canada, said in the release.  “Combining the strengths of both companies, we will add outstanding value in the regional and international perishables business. For both, our customers and our employees this will generate growing perspectives and services.”
