Tuna loins, fish balls recalled in Canada

A Canadian seafood supplier is recalling tuna loins and tuna steaks due to elevated histamine levels that have caused allergic reactions. Simultaneously, another supplier is recalling fish balls and other seafood products that may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum.

Richmond, British Columbia-based Seven Seas Limited is recalling certain Unomundo brand Tuna Loins and Tuna Steaks from the marketplace due to elevated histamine levels.

Health Canada reported seven allergic reactions linked to the recall, a Canadian Food Inspection Agency spokesperson told SeafoodSource.

The products were “possibly” distributed nationwide, including to the regions of Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario, CFIA said in a press release.

The recalled tuna loins, Lot # 59831, may have been served from clerks at seafood counters, with or without a label or coding.

“Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the affected product are advised to contact their retailer,” CFIA said.

Meanwhile, Fresh 7 Baskets Limited in Scarborough, Ontario, is recalling Aqua Okeano brand and Aqua Okeano / Seven Baskets brand fish products because they may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum.

There have been no illnesses associated with the recalled products, CFIA said in a press release.

The recalled products include certain dates and lots of: Aqua Okeano Fish Ball with Cuttlefish, Fried Fish Ball, Handmade Fish Cake with Vegetable, White Fish Ball, and Fried Fish Ball.

The products were distributed in Ontario, Quebec, and possibly nationwide.

This recall was triggered by CFIA test results.
