As Princess Cruises returns to offering Alaskan cruises, it is rolling out an culinary, entertainment and shore excursion series that highlights Alaskan seafood.
The new “North to Alaska” program allows guests to be “thoroughly immersed with authentic Alaska-themed activities,” throughout the seven-day cruises, Princess Cruises said in a press release.
Guests can enjoy destination-themed dinners in the main dining rooms and unique Alaska seafood menus in the specialty restaurants that include fresh salmon, King crab, and halibut.
Seafood chowder from Bonanza Bar and Grill in Skagway and fish tacos from The Alaska Fish House in Ketchikan are also being offered on the top deck grill of Majestic Princess, along with other selections in Juneau.
The cruise line is also offering “Cook My Catch,” in which guests can reel in a fish during a fishing excursion and have chefs cook it for their dinner that night.
The cruise industry is coming back to Alaska after a yearlong hiatus caused by the COVID-19 crisis. Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and Celebrity Cruises have all announced sailings in Alaska starting in July. The world's cruise lines have also begun announcing summer cruises out of Europe and elsewhere internationally, though their post-pandemic ramp-up has been gradual as they seek permission from governments around the world to resume operations.
Earlier this week, Carnival announced the cancellation of two of its Holland America cruises in Europe this summer, as the company awaits permission from the countries in which it plans to operate. However, demand has been strong, according to the company, which reported selling out a recently offered cruise in Portugal and the Canary Islands in six hours.
