Bristol Seafood purchases additional facility

Portland, Maine, U.S.A.-based Bristol Seafood announced it has purchased a new building to support the company’s continued growth.

The new facility is located at 284 Commercial Street, just a few hundred feet away from Bristol’s current facility. According to the company, the new facility will be devoted to producing My Fish dish, Seafood Singles, and Grab & Go product ranges.

"We are excited to expand our footprint, team, and investment in Portland," Bristol Seafood Chief Operating Officer Brett Heidtke said. "The additional space brings more capacity and automation to our growing retail business while also creating space in our original facility to support the expanding needs of our foodservice and contract manufacturing partners."

The company added that the new facility will have capabilities including “breathable skin-pack, vacuum skin-pack, traditional vacuum-packing, along with automated labeling, batch-weighing, and portioning.”

The building is currently being renovated, and according to Bristol will be operational in Q1 2022.

Bristol Vice President of Marketing Iréne Moon told SeafoodSource the company saw the new building as a great opportunity.

“We’re always on the lookout for opportunities to support our growth, and when this building came across our radar, we were thrilled to be in a position to jump on it,” she said.

Moon added that the company is facing similar labor challenges as the rest of the seafood industry, but that the company is “confident we will continue to attract the team members we need.”

Bristol Seafood recently expanded into the grab-and-go category with its Bristol Grab & Go retail range released earlier this year. The company’s My Fish Dish range saw success as the COVID-19 pandemic increased the amount of consumers cooking at home.
