The first quarter of 2019 was a struggle for Indonesian shrimp farmers as they were confronted with low prices, diseases, and limited broodstock availability. The struggle has continued in Q2, with prices rebounding in July and stabilizing in August.
However, compared to other producing nations such as India and Vietnam, Indonesia’s prices are still too high to compete in the market. These challenges have also affected the overall export of the country, which continued to decline until the end of Q2 for the top importing nations.
