Air Canada launches high-frequency freighter service to Halifax, Nova Scotia

Air Canada's first cargo flight to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Air Canada and Air Canada Cargo have announced new dedicated freighter flights into Halifax Stanfield International Airport – located in Goffs, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The new service will allow direct flights by Air Canada Cargo between Halifax and the airline’s global network. The inaugural flight on the new service arrived on 20 April, 2022 and will be loaded up with cargo – including fresh lobster and fish.

"We have always enjoyed a long-standing and strong bond with Atlantic Canada and the Nova Scotia community, and we are thrilled to introduce direct freighter capacity to the market,” Air Canada Cargo Vice President Jason Berry said in a release. Atlantic Canada's economy has experienced important growth in the last few years, with increased demand from North America, Europe, and beyond. Nova Scotia is a key element of our growth strategy and Halifax being one of our first Canadian markets with the freighters further emphasizes the importance we place on our partnerships in the community.”

The new service will have five flights from Toronto, Canada to Halifax, Nova Scotia a week, starting on 20 April, the airline announced. Then, from Toronto, flights will head to Frankfurt, Germany, twice a week; Cologne, Germany, once a week; Istanbul, Turkey, once a week; and Madrid, Spain, three times a week.

"Having stronger air links opens the door for more trade and investment in our province. It means we can build on the already strong relationship with our trading partners and create new ones," Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston said. "This is an important step forward for many of our businesses who will benefit from this exciting growth of Air Canada's freighter network."

The company added that the new service “compliments” its existing service to Latin American cities.
