Hong Kong-based Ocean One Holding Ltd. has reported rising demand for Canadian prawns and other premium frozen species in the wake of COVID-19-related dining and travel restrictions.

The company, one of Hong Kong’s top importers of frozen seafood, reported a 26.3 percent year-over-year jump in revenue, to HKD 124.6 million (USD 16.1 million, EUR 16.1 million) in Q2 2022, ending 30 June, 2022. Its net profit for the quarter rose 66.2 percent year-over-year to HKD 16.3 million (USD 2.1 million, EUR 2.1 million).

The increase in revenue, according to Ocean One, is “primarily attributable to the increase in sales of products such as Clearwater Arctic clams, Japan sashimi scallop, flying fish roe, and seasoned salmon fish roe.”

According to the company, its profits were also helped by strong sales of various high-margin products including Canadian spot prawn, Maruha Nichiro brand Argentine red shrimp, and king crab legs.

Hong Kong’s government has steadily eased rules enacted to prevent the spread COVID-19, including dropping mandatory hotel quarantines for international arrivals on 26 September.
