Norwegian salmon prices have increased 2.19 percent over the past week and are up 2.51 percent thus far in 2023, according to the Nasdaq Salmon Index.
The index, the weighted average of weekly reported sales prices and corresponding volumes in fresh Atlantic superior salmon, head-on gutted, as reported by a panel of Norwegian salmon exporters and salmon producers with export licenses, found the average per-kilo price of Norwegian salmon to be NOK 89.46 (USD 8.96, EUR 8.33).
Over the past four weeks, the average price has jumped 15.13 percent, up from NOK 75.77 (USD 7.59, EUR 7.05) in mid-December 2022.
Fish Pool reported the total sales volume for Norwegian salmon exporters for the first week of January 2023 was up 8 percent, to 1,202 tons. That total was down 17 percent, or 3,182 tons in comparison to the first week of 2021.
The total volume of exports over the past five weeks was 5,039 tons, down 5 percent year-over-year.
Fish Pool's price forecasting tool is predicting salmon prices will continue to rise through Q2 2023, reaching a high of NOK 95.28 (USD 9.54, EUR 8.87).
Norwegian salmon prices hit a high of EUR 11.72 (USD 12.04) in April 2022 before dropping back to EUR 8.68 (USD 8.92) in July 2022.
