The end of March 2022 brought a large increase in the export price of fresh Norwegian salmon, according to new figures published by Statistics Norway.
Between 21 and 27 March, 2022, the average export price reached NOK 83.53 (USD 9.58, EUR 8.68) per kilogram, which represented a 6.7 percent increase on the previous seven-day period.
Over the course of that week, Norway exported 17,129 metric tons (MT) of fresh salmon, which was 1.1 percent less than the 17,326 MT exported in the previous week.
In addition to its fresh exports, Norway sold 397 MT of frozen salmon to overseas markets at an average NOK 83.13 (USD 9.53, EUR 8.64) per kilogram.
In the corresponding period of 2021, fresh Norwegian salmon achieved an average export price of NOK 59.97 (USD 6.88, EUR 6.23) per kilogram, while frozen salmon exports were sold for an average NOK 50.92 (USD 5.83, EUR 5.29) per kilogram.
At the start of this year, the export price of fresh Norwegian salmon was NOK 68.38 (USD 7.84, EUR 7.11) per kilogram, while the export price of frozen salmon was NOK 59.02 (USD 6.77, EUR 6.14).
Farmed salmon was Norway’s leading seafood export in 2021, with sales totaling NOK 81.4 billion (USD 9.3 billion, EUR 8.5 billion), up 16 percent on the previous year. The volume increased by 13 percent to 1.3 million MT.
