Tridents Seafoods, High Liner Foods, and Channel Fish Processing are the benefactors of U.S. Department of Agriculture contracts for Alaska pollock worth more than USD 4.5 million (EUR 3.7 million).
The USDA is buying 1.98 million pounds of frozen bulk pollock, pollock fillets, and fish sticks for USD 4.54 million (EUR 3.7 million) for use in federal nutrition assistance programs in 2021.
Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based High Liner Foods will supply around USD 2.4 million (EUR 2 million) worth of pollock sticks, and Seattle, Washington-based Trident will supply USD 2 million (EUR 1.6 million) worth of sticks, bulk, and fillets. Braintree, Massachusetts-based Channel Fish will supply around USD 84,000 (EUR 69,000) worth of pollock sticks.
"The past four years have brought unprecedented volumes of USDA purchases of Wild Alaska pollock and the federal government has now established itself as a very important customer to our members who work to bring this delicious and nutritious fish caught in the pristine waters of Alaska to tables around the world,” GAPP CEO Craig Morris told SeafoodSource after the USDA sent out its bid solicitation on the contract. “This most recent invitation is certainly notable in its scale and, although it is too early to know how much wild Alaska pollock USDA will purchase in fiscal year 2021, has certainly sent a great signal that USDA remains an important customer to our membership.”
