Russia’s Federal Fisheries Agency (Rosrybolovstvo) is reporting the country plans to expand its maritime cooperation with Brazil.
Rosrybolovstvo Director Ilya Shestakov, as part of a delegation chaired by Presidential Aide Nikolai Patrushev, reportedly participated in negotiations between the two countries that would lead to greater cooperation in fisheries and shipbuilding. According to the agency, Shestakov met with Rodrigo Loureiro, the executive secretary of the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services.
“The talks in Brazil are furthering efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fishing industry,” Rosrybolovstvo reported.
The agency reported Shestakov also held meeting with Brazilian Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Rivetla Édipo Araújo Cruz on 3 August.
According to the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to FAO, the talks were centered around launching joint initiatives, reducing trade barriers, and strengthening the scientific cooperation between the two countries. It said Russia views Brazil as a promising export market for pollock, cod, haddock, herring, surimi, and crab products.
