A surge in demand for baby octopuses has sent the Indian seafood exporters scouring for the marine product, which is mostly caught from the western coast. Instead of adult octopuses that are shipped from India, the exporters are now looking for babies which are fetching high prices in the global market.
Since the availability of baby octopuses is limited, the exporters have to pay a premium price to purchase them, from the fishermen , for shipment. The unprecedented rise in the demand is attributed to poor landings in Vietnam.
