Indiana Yellow Perch Farm Launched

Bell Aquaculture last month began operating a yellow perch farm in Albany, Ind. The first fish should be available next spring.

The farm, which the company touts as the country's largest yellow perch farm, will market its fish to the foodservice market as Bell Perchâ?¢, says President and COO Michael Miller. Yellow perch is a popular pan fish in the Great Lakes region and has a mild, sweet flavor with firm white flesh and low fat levels.

The facility's annual production capacity is less than 100,000 pounds, but the company expects to ramp production up to 9 million pounds a year and employ 70.
