Indonesian shrimp processor PT United Harvest Indonesia taps into China’s snack market

Indonesian food processor PT United Harvest Indonesia has entered the Chinese snack food market, offering a range of shrimp crackers in the market.

The Jakarta-based firm is now distributing its Deep Ocean Treasure range of dried shrimp snacks through retailers across northern China. PT United has appointed Carme Import and Export Trading Co. as its sole agent for the Chinese market.

Indonesia, which has duty-free access to the Chinese market as a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), has become a major supplier of primary goods to China its largest trading partner.

Chinese language packaging on the packets of shrimp snacks being sold in China aim to capitalize on the increasing popularity of Indonesia for Chinese tourists.

Chinese airline service to major Western destinations has still not returned to its pre-pandemic level, but Chinese tourists are flocking back to Southeast Asia – in particular Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, which have good relations with Beijing.

This is the second move recently by an Indonesian firm to tap the Chinese market after Bumi Menara Internus signed a strategic agreement with Zhanjiang Guolian Aquatic Products Co. for shrimp sourcing and processing.
