New CEO at Clearwater

Clearwater Seafoods Ltd. Partnership on Monday announced the appointment of Ian Smith as CEO, effective 17 May.

Smith will replace Colin MacDonald, the Nova Scotia-based seafood supplier’s founder and chairman, who announced in late 2008 that he is retiring from the CEO role.

Currently, Smith, 46, is VP of business development for North America at Campbell Soup Co. He has more then 21 years of experience in the food and consumer-product industries, including senior leadership positions at Campbell Soup in the United States, China and Canada and previously with Colgate-Palmolive.

“Ian’s proven track record over the past 21 years, his diverse range of global experience in both marketing and sales and his demonstrated business development abilities in North America and internationally made him the ideal candidate for the position,” said MacDonald.

“Clearwater is not only a world leader in sustainable harvesting practices and resource management, it has a world recognized brand and reputation for the very highest quality shellfish and a proven record in the innovative use of technology to enhance customer value,” said Smith.
