New leader at Mussel Industry Council

The Mussel Industry Council of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on Monday appointed Linda Duncan as its executive director.

Duncan most recently served as executive director of the PEI Aquaculture Association. She has experience in international business, project management, marketing, consumer service and change management. Duncan has also worked around the world in various industries, including a stint as director of SAT Travel in London.

Duncan also sits on a number of Canadian national and regional aquaculture boards.

“I’m excited to be a part of the newly formed Mussel Industry Council,” said Duncan. “This is a great time for this growing industry to undertake some new initiatives that will promote this delicious, healthy and naturally sustainable seafood. There is a huge potential for the industry in the coming years and I’m looking forward to being a part of the team.”

Peter Burdan was the council’s first executive director, appointed to the position in May 2009.

The Mussel Industry Council was formed early last year and consists of mussel growers and processors from Atlantic Canada and Quebec, as well as various industry associations. Its primary goal is to oversee a marketing program designed to increase demand for mussels across North America.
