The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) confiscated undersized lobsters from Beyer Lightning Fish Co., a seafood wholesaler located in the Fulton Fish Market Cooperative in Bronx, New York, in mid-March.

DEC officers partnered with law enforcement from the NOAA Fisheries to conduct routine joint inspections of wholesale seafood dealers in the Bronx.

The officers seized 168 undersized American lobsters from Beyer, and issued a notice of violation to the company.

The DEC donated the seized lobsters to the Bowery Mission in Manhattan to help feed New York City residents in need. Donating seized seafood — as long as it has not expired — to individuals, organizations, and animal organizations is a regular practice, according to DEC.
