The National Fisheries Institute (NFI) Crab Council is looking for an Asia liaison to be its primary in-region contact for its projects.
The position will work with in-country trade associations and various stakeholders on fisheries improvement work. In addition, the liaison will educate agencies about the importance of sustainable crab management practices. The liaison should be able to build coalitions and networks and talk comfortably with government officials.
The liaison will be located centrally in Thailand but travel extensively to help with new and existing projects and work solely for NFI.
“Our blue swimming crab sustainability efforts began in Indonesia and the Philippines and are poised to expand to Vietnam and Thailand,” said Phillips Foods’ Ed Rhodes, the council’s chair. “As efforts continue to grow it is clear that our partners can benefit from an advocate on the ground in the region and our member companies would benefit from a dedicated coordinator.”
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers recently announced it formed its own crab council as part of its seafood committee that will work on blue swimming crab sustainability projects.
