Norway’s seafood export value for the first half of this year reached a record NOK 20.6 billion (USD 3.2 billion, EUR 2.3 billion), an increase of NOK 2.9 billion (USD 445 million, EUR 321 million) from the previous record set last year, according to the Norwegian Seafood Export Council.
In June alone, the country exported NOK 3.4 billion (USD 522 million, EUR 376 million) worth of seafood, a 32 percent increase from the same month in 2008.
Salmon accounted for NOK 10.7 billion (USD 1.6 billion, EUR 1.2 billion) in the first half of this year, up 20 percent from the same period last year.
Herring’s export value also increased 29 percent, while mackerel’s doubled. Fresh and salted cod also saw increases.
