Norwegian farmed salmon prices dropped slightly in Week 1 of 2026, which occurred from 28 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, according to the Sitagri Salmon Index (SISALMONI).
Due to fewer processing and slaughter days and many market stakeholders taking time off to start the year, exports were still relatively low to start the year. Week 1 saw Norway export 13,496 metric tons (MT) of salmon, up 969 MT, or 7.7 percent, from the previous week and up 2,132 MT, or 18.8 percent, from the same week last year.
Week 1’s average per-kilogram price for Norwegian salmon of all sizes was NOK 95.45 (USD 9.45, EUR 8.11), down 3.7 percent from Week 52 of 2025’s average of NOK 98.93 (USD 9.80, EUR 8.41). The average weight sold across all size indexes was 4.64 kilograms.
Sitagri pays particular attention to the prices of salmon between 3 and 6 kilograms in weight, which is typically the most popular size for buyers. During Week 1, salmon in that category hit an average per-kilogram price of NOK 96.27 (USD 9.54, EUR 8.18), down 4.8 percent from NOK 100.88 (USD 9.99, EUR 8.58) the week prior.
Salmon weighing 1 to 2 kilograms increased in price, hitting NOK 66.63 (USD 6.60, EUR 5.66), up from Week 52’s average of NOK 62.65 (USD 6.21, EUR 5.33). Salmon of this size represented 1.6 percent of the total volume sold, or 48 MT.
The average price of salmon weighing 2 to 3 kilograms was up to NOK 85.17 (USD 8.44, EUR 7.24) from NOK 87.21 (USD 8.64, EUR 7.41) per kilogram in Week 52. This category made up 9.9 percent of the total export volume, or 306 MT.
The price for salmon weighing between 3 and 4 kilograms was NOK 92.90 (USD 9.20, EUR 7.90), down from NOK 97.03 (USD 9.61, EUR 8.25) in Week 52. Salmon in this size range made up 26.9 percent of the total weekly sale, reaching 828 MT.
Salmon weighing 4 to 5 kilograms came to an average price per kilogram of NOK 94.84 (USD 9.39, EUR 8.06), down from NOK 99 (USD 9.81, EUR 8.42). This category represented 25.9 percent of the total sale, or 799 MT.
Salmon weighing 5 to 6 kilograms cost NOK 101.54 (USD 10.06, EUR 8.63) per kilogram, down from NOK 107.22 (USD 10.62, EUR 9.12). Norway exported 512 MT of salmon in this category, which made up 16.6 percent of the week’s total export volume.
Salmon weighing 6 to 7 kilograms achieved an average per-kilogram price of NOK 103.95 (USD 10.30, EUR 8.84), down from NOK 107.76 (USD 10.67, EUR 9.16) per kilogram in Week 52. Salmon of this size made up 11.5 percent of the total volume exported, or 353 MT.
Prices for salmon weighing 7 to 8 kilograms dropped to NOK 101.43 (USD 10.05, EUR 8.62) from NOK 109.37 (USD 10.83, EUR 9.30). Norway exported 165 MT of salmon in this category, or 5.4 percent of the week’s total exports.
Salmon weighing 8 to 9 kilograms dropped in price to NOK 96.11 (USD 9.52, EUR 8.17) per kilogram, down from NOK 109.10 (USD 10.81, EUR 9.28) in Week 52. This salmon made up only 1.8 percent of the total volume exported, amounting to 56 MT.
Salmon weighing more than 9 kiolgrams declined significantly in price in Week 1, dropping to NOK 93.92 (USD 9.30, EUR 7.98) from NOK 109.15 (USD 10.81, EUR 9.28). Salmon in this category made up 0.5 percent of the total export volume, or 14 MT.
