Russian fishermen have caught 2.83 million metric tons of fish since the beginning of the year, which is 0.8 percent more than they caught in the same period of 2011.
According to the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency (Rosrybolovstvo), fishers boosted their catch in the Far Eastern Basin by 6,300 metric tons year-on-year to 1.975 million metric tons. Pollock was the main hunt in the area, at 1.226 million metric tons (24,300 metric tons more than in the same period of last year).
In the Northern Basin, the fish catch was down 7,600 metric tons year-on-year to 419,000 metric tons. Cod accounted for 237,700 metric tons of the catch, up 14,600 metric tons over the same period of 2011.
