Ruth Levy, Chief Business Officer for Stavis Seafoods, has become the second executive to be featured in the Sea Delight Ocean Fund’s “Women in Seafood” series, which focuses on top-ranking women at the forefront of the industry.
In her role with Stavis, Levy oversees all new business development and frozen procurement. She is an industry veteran of 32 years, and has helped to facilitate growth at Stavis since her start with the company in 1988. Levy began her career in seafood after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and linguistics from SUNY at Stony Brook in 1980; she became a commercial fisherman, eventually earning her Captain's Papers. Leaving the harvesting side in 1981, Levy worked in the processing sector for the following five years, ending up as a plant manager for a seafood processor in Rhode Island.
Levy’s illustrious career – which includes a stint as former President of the Women's Fisheries Network and continual work with the National Fisheries Institute – makes the executive an ideal candidate for the "Women in Seafood" series, incepted by Adriana Sanchez, Sustainability Director for Sea Delight and President of the Sea Delight Ocean Fund. Every other week, the Sea Delight Ocean Fund will feature a series new installment. Levy joins Dr. Barbara Blakistone, Senior Director of Scientific Affairs for the National Fisheries Institute, as a featured figure.
