The Alaska Symphony of Seafood has announced Triad Fisheries was awarded the Seattle People’s Choice award winner for its Alaskan Sablefish Unagi Syle at the organization’s 20th annual New Products Judging and Reception on 13 February.
The contest, held at Palace Ballroom in Seattle was organized and sponsored by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation.
The award is based on voting by the reception attendees. A panel of judges will choose first, second and third place category winner and the overall grand prize winner and will be announced at the Award Ceremony and Gala Soiree on 23 February in Anchorage. The Anchorage People’s Choice Award winner will also be based on attendees’ votes for their favorite new seafood item.
The first place winners from each category — retail, foodservice and smoked products — will receive free booth space at the International Boston Seafood Show on 10 to 12 March, as well as airfare to and from the event.
This year’s judges included: Brian O’Connor from Skillet, Jason Wilson from Crush, cookbook author Tomi Marsh, restaurant consultant Jake Kosseff, Tony Catini from Serious Pie, Charles Benton from Sysco, Dezi Bonow from Palace Kitchen, Cynthia Nims from Mon Appetit and Molly Hancock from FareStart.
