Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based Trident Seafoods won the majority of new U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) contracts to supply Alaska wild pollock.

Trident will supply USD 1.6 million (EUR 1.5 million) worth of pollock out of a total USD 2.05 million (EUR 2 million) worth of contracts, while Channel Fish Processing in Braintree, Massachusetts, U.S.A., will supply around USD 448,000 (EUR 423,000) in pollock.

The suppliers will make deliveries from January through April 2025 to food banks, schools, and seafood-processing facilities for further processing into value-added items for subsequent delivery to schools, Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers CEO Craig Morris told SeafoodSource.

In total, the USDA bought 920,000 pounds of four different Alaska pollock items in the most recent round of contracts.

The agency paid USD 2.37 (EUR 2.24) per pound for breaded fish sticks, USD 1.67 (EUR 1.58) per pound of 49.5-pound cartons of Alaska pollock PBO fillet blocks, USD 2.61 (EUR 2.47) per pound for 40-pound boxes containing 20 bags weighing 2-pounds each of breaded pollock fish fillets, and USD 2.23 (EUR 2.11) per pound for 40-pound boxes containing 20 bags weighing 2-pounds each of breaded pollock fish sticks that will be delivered to food banks, according to Morris.

“I believe when compared to other protein options, USDA’s purchases of Alaska pollock provide a great value to the Federal Food and Nutrition Assistance Program,” Morris told SeafoodSource in early November.
