U.S. wholesalers are reporting a significant jump in the prices they are being quoted for Norwegian salmon in the lead-up to the 2026 Seafood Expo North America (SENA), taking place 15 to 17 March in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.

One source, who shared quotes received for salmon departing Norway between 10 and 13 March and between 16 and 19 March, saw a USD 0.70 (EUR 0.61, NOK 6.75) price increase on skinless superior Atlantic salmon loins during the time period.

Across the board, prices for the most highly trimmed salmon fillets and portions, the source said, had increased significantly. For instance, the source saw a USD 0.20 (EUR 0.17, NOK 1.93) price increase, or 2.05 percent, on Trim E DSK portions in the time period.

The price increase trajectory was even higher for salmon fillets by the pound, and smaller sizes saw bigger price increases. For deliveries departing Norway between 10 and 13 March, for instance, the source had been asked to pay between USD 6.75 (EUR 5.89, NOK 65.10) and USD 9.05 (EUR 7.89, NOK 87.28) for 1- to 2-pound fillets trims B through E DSK.

For deliveries departing Norway between 16 and 19 March, however, when SENA will be running in Boston, prices were more than 4 percent higher for all fillets in this size category.

The source had been quoted USD 7.05 (EUR 6.15, NOK 67.99) for the least highly trimmed 1- to 2-pound fillets, while they were quoted USD 9.45 (EUR 8.24, NOK 91.14) for the most highly trimmed: Trim E DSK.

The percent of price increase was less dramatic as weight categories increased, but even the 4- to 5-pound fillet category saw a more than 1 percent price increase between 10 March and 19 March.

Skinless loins saw the most dramatic price increase offered, with prices from 10 to 13 March at USD 13.55 (EUR 11.82, NOK 130.68) per pound increasing to USD 14.25 (EUR 12.43, NOK 137.43) for departures between 16 and 19 March, a 5.17 percent increase of USD 0.70 (EUR 0.61, NOK 6.75).

Organic salmon saw no price increase, with prices ranging from USD 8.00 (EUR 6.98, NOK 77.15) to USD 11.05 (EUR 9.64, NOK 106.57) depending on size and trim, and salmon trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) also saw no price changes, with prices ranging from USD 7.50 (EUR 6.54, NOK 72.33) to USD 8.55 (EUR 7.46, NOK 82.46) depending on size and trim.
