Vietnam seafood exports to Egypt surpass $57 million

Vietnam’s seafood exports to Egypt continue to grow, equaling in the first nine months of 2014 the previous year’s total, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Seafood has always been the leading export item from Vietnam to Egypt. According to General Customs, Vietnam seafood exports to Egypt reached USD 57.2 million (EUR 45.7 million) in the first nine months of 2014, equivalent to that of 2013.

Egypt, with a population of 85 million of people live, has high demand for seafood. This market consumes 2 million MT of fish every year while domestic supply deficits, according to VASEP.

In total, Vietnam’s 2013 seafood exports to Egypt in 2013 valued USD USD 57.2 million (EUR 45.7 million), with pangasius at USD 40 million (EUR 31.9 million) and whiteleg shrimp exports at USD 13.3 million (EUR 10.6 million). Pangasius, accounted for 62 percent of total seafood exports to Egypt, valued USD 35.8 million (EUR 28.6 million).

Live/fresh/frozen whiteleg shrimp accounted for 28 percent of exports at approximately USD 16 million (EUR 12.7 million) in value. Black tiger shrimp exports to Egypt were worth of USD 1.1 million (EUR 878,000) in the first nine months of 2014.
