Einar Wathne is stepping down as president of Cargill Aqua Nutrition and will be replaced by Adriano Marcon.
Wathne will move into a more strategic, advisory role “helping Cargill explore its options in the seafood value chain, as seafood leader for Cargill Animal Nutrition,” according to Hanne Dankertsen, the communications manager for Cargill Animal Nutrition.
“Einar’s deep knowledge and expertise has been transformational and has helped position Cargill a leader in aquaculture,” Dankertsen told SeafoodSource via email. “We look forward to tapping into his expertise to help Cargill explore opportunities to expand its presence, influence and success across the seafood value chain."
Cargill Aqua Nutrition produced nearly 1.5 million metric tons of aquaculture feed in 2017, accounting for around 3.5 percent of the global market. Its feed range encompasses 30 different warm- and cold-water species, but the majority was produced for salmonids – 985,000 MT – and around one-third for shrimp and tilapia – 506,000 MT. CQN’s salmon feed is produced in Norway, Scotland, Canada, and Chile; and its warm-water feed is made in China, Ecuador, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Peru, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam.
Marcon has been with the company since 2011 in various roles, most recently serving as vice president of North America and China for Cargill Animal Nutrition. He previously worked as Cargill Aqua Nutrition’s Vice President of North America and Latin America, and as the Group Director for Latin American and Iberia for Cargill Premix and Nutrition. Before joining Cargill, he was vice president of the Brazilian Feed Industry Association and managing director for Provimi Latin America, until Cargill purchased Provimi in 2011.
“His exceptional global leadership, innovative thinking, and drive for success will help further accelerate growth for CQN and position the business for long-term success,” Dankertsen said.
