Chinese shrimp exporter Guolian Aquatic is expecting a leveling-off of sales growth in 2018 due to the Sino-U.S. trade war.
However, the firm is still seeing increased success reaching domestic Chinese markets with localized shrimp offerings distributed through local retail distribution chains, Michelle Lin, vice general manager of Guolian's international marketing department, told SeafoodSource.
“Overall, we expect to be slightly down in 2018 on last year’s sales revenues, but the long term outlook is very good, the demand in the domestic market in particular is very strong,” Lin said at the Seafood Expo Asia (SEA) event in Hong Kong last week.
Among the products Guolian was showcasing at the expo were bite-sized, crumbed tilapia pieces, which are proving a winner in the Chinese convenience food sector. Similarly, offerings of shrimp flavored in traditional Chinese culinary styles are being targeted at customers in countries across the region with large ethnic Chinese communities, Lin said.
