Two seafood industry veterans have joined Stavis Seafoods leadership team, the Massachusetts-based seafood supplier and distributor announced on 4 December.
Mohamed Fakira and Allison Roderick will serve as Stavis Seafoods’ vice president of operations and director of quality, respectively.
Fakira, formerly of Bonamar Corporation and Slade Gorton, will oversee the optimization and maximization of productivity and efficiencies across all Stavis facilities as the company’s new VP of operations. He will also work to create a strategic organizational plan for the company’s new state-of-the-art facility scheduled for construction on Boston’s waterfront.
As Stavis’ new director of quality, Roderick – who has more than 18 years of FSQA experience in seafood, and has held roles with Monogram Foods LLC and Gorton’s Incorporated – will be responsible for ensuring the overall quality, safety, and consistency of the company’s numerous seafood offerings while implementing and auditing processes and traceability controls at each Stavis location, according to the vertically-integrated importer and manufacturer.
“The addition of Mohamed and Allison comes at important time in our growth,” Stavis Seafoods CEO Chuck Marble said. “Stavis recently expanded to include company-owned vessels and processing plants around the world. As we incorporate and optimize these vertically integrated capabilities, the operations and quality teams will both play an essential role in ensuring we maintain our high standards of customer service and achieve our organizational and quality objectives. Mohamed and Allison will also be key players as we plan our new facility on Boston’s Waterfront and develop new products to penetrate new markets and channels for growth. We are excited that they are joining our growing team.”
A liaison to the USDA and FDA regarding all aspects of manufacturing – including product labeling, regulatory compliance, and sanitation – Fakira is HACCP and SQF Seafood Certified. He has more than 20 years of strategic and progressive plant management experience, which includes time spent as plant Manager for Ian’s Natural Foods in addition to his stints with Bonamar and Slade Gorton.
With a degree in food safety from Michigan State University, Roderick once served as the director of microbiology and quality assurance for Monogram Foods LLC, a value-added meat, snack and appetizer manufacturer. She also has served in numerous management capacities in the quality department at Gorton’s Incorporated, most recently as the company’s quality assurance manager of microbiology and food safety.
A global seafood sourcing company, Stavis Seafoods recently secured approval for its proposal to build a new processing facility in Boston's Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park. The approval from the Port Authority comes after Stavis teamed up with a new developer, Pilot Development Partners, after Stavis’ initial developer partner failed to meet a construction deadline. The new complex, to be constructed by Pilot Development, will measure 140,000 square feet when complete, with Stavis Seafoods as the primary tenant.
