Delegations of the European Union, Faroe Islands, Norway, and Iceland, with the participation of Greenland as an observer, have reached an agreement on the management measures for blue whiting and Atlanto-Scandian herring in 2019.
The Northeast Atlantic coastal states agreed at a meeting in London that next year’s total catch of blue whiting should not exceed 1,143,629 metric tons (MT) and that the total catch level for Atlanto-Scandian herring should not be more than 588,562 MT.
These new catch limits are based on the long-term management strategy jointly agreed by the coastal states and are in line with the scientific advice received from the International Council for Exploration of the Sea (ICES).
The parties may fish their quotas in their respective zones of fisheries jurisdiction and in international waters.
