The shrimp sector in Peru – about 7,000 hectares – is small but commercially well organized.
Both production and processing are dominated by a small group of companies. Marinazul is by far the largest player in Peru, owning three factories for shrimp processing and a large number of farms. Smaller companies like Ecosac and Acuicultura Tecnica Integrada Sa (ATISA) are growing. The shrimp-farming sector is concentrated in the north, close to the border with Ecuador in the districts of Piura and Tumbes.
