Norway exported herring and mackerel worth more than NOK 1.9 billion (USD 233.3 million, EUR 203.9 million) in the first four months of this year, representing an increase of 60 percent year-on-year.
Herring exports during the January through April period totaled NOK 980 million (USD 120.3 million, EUR 105.2 million), an increase of 71 percent or NOK 406 million (USD 49.9 million, EUR 43.6 million) compared to the corresponding period of 2015.
In April alone, Norway’s herring exports achieved a value of NOK 126 million (USD 15.5 million, EUR 13.5 million), which was 60 percent or NOK 47 million (USD 5.8 million, EUR 5 million) more than in April 2015.
Poland and Germany have been the biggest markets for Norwegian herring this year.
During the same four-month period, Norway exported NOK 931 million (USD 114.3 million, EUR 99.9 million) worth of mackerel, an increase of 50 percent or NOK 310 million (USD 38.1 million, EUR 33.3 million) year-on-year.
The country’s mackerel exports were particularly strong last month, achieving a total of NOK 160 million (USD 19.6 million, EUR 17.2 million), up 99 percent compared with April 2015.
The largest markets for this product so far this year have been Nigeria and Japan.
