The power of Twitter

Marine Harvest is using it as a way to get people to link to a Fisheries and Oceans Canada fact sheet on sea lice.  Casson Trenor is soliciting questions about sustainable sushi, and SeafoodSource.com is announcing headlines and breaking news…Every category of the seafood industry is taking advantage of a totally free, totally simple way to reach thousands of people.  It’s Twitter! It's quick, it’s easy, and it’s happening all around you. If you haven’t thought about using Twitter as part of your marketing plan, you’re missing out on one of the easiest social networking opportunities out there. Twitter is a perfect way to announce concise event, specials or promotions, or it’s a simple way to lure people to a larger piece – like your website, or a news story featuring your company. It’s also a way to promote your company’s “personality”, a chance to separate from the competition and forge a unique, personal identity.

If you think Twitter is something your teenage daughter and her friends are doing, think again!  Recent Nielsen survey results reveal the largest age group on Twitter was 35-49; with nearly 3 million unique visitors, comprising almost 42 percent of the site’s audience.  You can find out more about who’s tweeting here

What does Wade Weistling, VP of Culinary Development for The Oceanaire Room like about Twitter (in 140 characters or less)? He tweeted, “being limited to 140 characters makes your marketing message easily digestable & capable of reaching 100's & 1000's of people instantly.”
