Chicken of the Sea frozen tuna steaks garner FishWise nod

Imported frozen tuna produced by Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods (COSFF) under its Asian Gold brand has been endorsed by FishWise by way of the Monterey Bay Program.

At the start of Q4 in 2016, yellowfin and bigeye tuna imported from Indonesia and sold by COSFF will be caught utilizing pole/troll methods – a technique regarded by the scientific community as highly-sustainable with a low bycatch rate.

The endorsement will serve to reassure buyers and consumers who are concerned about marine conservation and over-fishing in the Indian and Western Central Pacific, said COSFF. The endorsement will also allow for COSFF tuna products to be sold in major retail locations that require tuna suppliers to be FishWise recommended.

The company is enthused by its new certification distinction: “Sustainable fishing practices are important to the health of the oceans and our business. We are grateful for the work of organizations such as FishWise and Monterey Bay Aquarium, and honored to be recognized for our own efforts to source ethically and responsibly,” said Bryan Rosenberg, President and CEO of Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods.

Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods will be exhibiting at this year’s Seafood Expo North America (SENA) event at booth No. 614 and booth No. 519 in Boston, Mass. from 6 to 8 March.
