CAQ harvests first Malaysian barramundi

Australia's Cell Aquaculture (CAQ) today announced it has harvested its first batch of Premium Australian Barramundi at the company's production facility in Terengganu, Malaysia.

"We are excited at the achievement of this important milestone, and despite the current global economic environment we believe the company is well positioned to enjoy significant upside," said CAQ Chairman Perry Leach. "While the prices of most commodities continue to decline, premium fish prices continue to soar."

The bulk of the harvest was shipped to Melbourne to be sampled by chefs. According to CAQ, the barramundi, a native Australian fish, has been well received by both chefs and retailers.

CAQ also distributed product to five-star executive chefs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, again receiving positive feedback.

The success of the first grow-out facility places CAQ closer to its goal of establishing Terengganu as the hub of premium-species aquaculture within the region.
