Declining salmon, trout prices lead to Q1 loss for AquaChile

Chile’s largest farmed salmon producer AquaChile recorded USD 192 million (EUR 175 million) in first-quarter sales, ending in March, a 15 percent decrease from the same period in 2014.

The Puerto Montt-based company attributed the drop in revenue to price decreases for sea trout, coho salmon and tilapia in its financial statement sent to the Superintendency of Securities and Insurance (SVS).

The company’s EBITDA pre fair value adjustments of the biomass were USD 5 million (EUR 4.55 million), due to lower sales margins for Atlantic salmon and sea trout, mainly associated to a decrease in export prices.

Salmon and sea trout harvests for the quarter reached 31,000 metric tons, whole fish equivalent, while tilapia harvests were 5,000 MT.
