Dias, BioMar reach purchasing agreement

One of Greece's largest aquaculture companies on Wednesday reached a purchasing agreement with the Greek subsidiary of Dutch fish feed manufacturer BioMar Group.

Dias Aquaculture SA committed to buy EUR 30 million (USD 42.4 million) of fish feed in the coming years, while BioMar Hellenic SA agreed to acquire a 25 percent stake in fish feed manufacturer Zoonomi SA for EUR 2.5 million (USD 3.5 million); Dias owns a majority stake in Zoonomi.

The deal allows Dias to focus on farming fish in the Mediterranean and BioMar to continue to develop new, more economical fish feed.

Founded in 1992, Dias operates two hatcheries, 31 fish farming sites, eight processing facilities and two distribution facilities throughout Greece. The company, which has a production capacity of 20,000 metric tons of fish, raises mainly sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and sea bream (Sparus aurata).

Owned by Denmark's Schouw & Co., BioMar is one of the world's largest fish feed producers.
