Nordic Aqua Partners has completed the first of four Stage 2 growout units at its land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) in Ningbo, China.
Nordic Aqua Partners completed Stage 1 of its RAS facility in 2024 and, despite brief setbacks caused by off flavors in its salmon, has been successfully harvesting salmon out of the facility since April 2024. In an operational update posted to the Oslo Børs, the company said it had a successful commercial harvest in Q3 2025 of 630 metric tons (MT) of head-on gutted salmon, with an average harvest weight of 3.1 kilograms and a superior grade of 98 percent.
The company said it harvested a large number of small fish during Q3 2025 as a way of optimizing the number of fish in the facility.
“This is to let other fish grow larger in line with the new strategy to produce larger fish,” the company said.
Nordic Aqua Partners said its biomass production was 969 MT in Q3 2025, bringing it to a total standing biomass of 2,835 MT.
Year to date, the company’s harvest has reached 1,673 MT, with the commercial harvest sitting at 1,585 MT head-on gutted, with an average harvest weight of 4.1 kilograms and a superior grade rate of 99 percent.
“Overall biological performance remains strong with good fish health, no maturation, and high survival rates,” the company said.
Nordic Aqua Partners said soon after the end of Q3 2025, the company successfully transferred its first fish into the first growout unit of its Stage 2 construction on 10 October. The transfer marks the beginning of operations in the first part of Stage 2, which is still under construction. The company said it expects to complete the next three units in the coming months.
Nordic Aqua Partners secured financing for a Chinese expansion in September, which it said will support the completion of Stage 2 and the next phase of construction which the company said would bring it to a 20,000-MT production capacity.
