Binyamina, Israel-based Pure Blue Fish is launching sales of its red drum in the Israeli market after developing its land-based aquaculture facility.
Pure Blue Fish has developed what it has labeled as the first commercial aquaculture system in the world to be fully cyclic, achieving 100 percent recycling of the water it uses. Using the system, the company said it has already raised 80,000 red drum fish destined for the Israeli market, and it plans to kick off its sales by selling 10,000 fish to local restaurants.
Operations at the company’s Isreal-based facility began in December 2024. Pure Blue Fish said the facility has proven its biological methods, which will allow it to set up fish farms in any desired geographical location, regardless of such factors as proximity to the ocean.
The company is demonstrating that ability at a U.S.-based facility in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. Pure Blue fish has said the facility will be a model for the company and that it is planning more facilities across the U.S.
"Our next farm will be established in South Carolina, followed by seven additional farms across the U.S., reaching approximately 80 percent of the population,” Pure Blue Fish CEO Yuval Weiss said. “This is a real global vision of sustainability and food security, providing high-quality, healthy fish to populations without current access to such resources.”
South Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers, who attended the commercial launch ceremony for Pure Blue Fish’s products, said bringing the company’s facility to the state adds value to its agricultural community.
“The simplicity and innovation of their technology present an incredible opportunity for local growth,” Weathers said. “We hope to attract their research and development initiatives as well, leveraging our strong university partnerships."
