Redmond’s role at GAA expands

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) on Thursday appointed Peter Redmond as VP of development, administration and communications.

Redmond has been consulting for GAA over the past year, helping the organization advocate for responsible, sustainable aquaculture worldwide. Previously, he was VP and divisional merchandise manager for seafood and deli products at Wal-Mart.

“Peter’s personal commitment to sustainable, responsible aquaculture has helped reshape the entire retail sector,” said George Chamberlain, GAA co-founder and president. Redmond’s expanded role at the GAA “will surely drive the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) program to new heights,” said Chamberlain.

“We are delighted that Peter has accepted this challenge,” added GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens. “His leadership in these arenas is exactly what GAA needs at this point in its growth and expansion.”

Redmond will continue to develop marketplace acceptance of BAP standards and work with funding groups to expand GAA’s financial base and membership.

“GAA is not only the leading standards-setting organization for aquaculture seafood,” said Redmond. “But for many in the marketplace, it is the only credible voice in support of aquaculture development worldwide. Aquaculture is the future, and GAA is the right organization to advocate for its responsible development.”

Chamberlain will remain GAA president, focusing on the Standards Oversight Committee. Both Chamberlain and Stevens will focus on supporting responsible aquaculture development, working with governments, regulatory agencies, trade associations and stakeholders worldwide.

The organization will continue to operate out of its U.S. office in St. Louis.
