Road to Boston: Sustainable fish feed

Is what farmed fish eat sustainable? That’s the question a panel of experts will address at one seminar during the upcoming International Boston Seafood Show.

The seminar will take place on 20 March from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., during which aquaculture experts will examine how current fish-feed practices impact the overall sustainability of aquaculture.

The panel, moderated by Steven Hart of the Indiana Soybean Alliance and supported by the United Soybean Board, includes representatives from producer Bell Aquaculture, fish-feed manufacturer Silver Cup Fish Feeds, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture Research Service, the U.S. Soybean Export Council and environmental NGO Ocean Conservatory.

The panel will discuss advances in feed research and the global aquaculture industry’s progress towards sustainability.

Panel attendees will have the opportunity to do a comparative taste test of farmed fish fed traditional fishmeal and fish oil (FMFO) based feed and fish fed an alternative diet. Attendees will also be available to voice their questions and concerns directly with the experts in a Q&A session.

To attend the seminar, participants must hold a Gold or Silver Passport as part of their registration. Click here to sign up for a Passport.
