Strong year start for sales at Clean Seas

Australian kingfish farmer Clean Seas Tuna Ltd. grew sales in the first four months of the current fiscal year with the volume sold increasing 59 percent year-on-year to 714 metric tons (MT), with the company citing “excellent” fish health and survival as key reasons for the performance. As such, its guidance for sales in FY 2017 is 2,500 MT.

A near 50/50 split between domestic and export sales was achieved during the four months with Australian sales increasing by 19 percent to 365 MT and export sales up 149 percent to 349 MT, said Clean Seas.

Export growth was achieved mainly in the Europe region, although the United States and Asia also recorded good growth.

The Port Lincoln-based company has been achieving better farm gate prices in Australia than the previous year due to an AUD 0.80 (USD 0.62, EUR 0.57) per kg (approximately 4.8 percent) price increase implemented in early October 2016.

This was the first price increase in this market since 2013, but sales volumes have continued to grow nonetheless, the company said.
