The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have released a draft of their “National Aquaculture Research and Development Strategic Plan.”
The plan — which will provide a framework for federal agencies to develop programs for aquaculture research and development — is in line with NOAA’s marine aquaculture policy, released just over a year ago; it will guide agency’s fish-farming activities and provide a national approach to supporting sustainable aquaculture.
The plan identifies nine strategic goals, including employ genetics to increase productivity and protect natural populations, improve aquatic animal health and increase the supply of nutritious, safe, high-quality seafood.
The plan is available for public comment through 27 August.
