Camanchaca CEO named CSMC president

The CEO of Chilean salmon farming firm Camanchaca, Ricardo Garcìa Holtz, has been named the new president of the Chilean Salmon Marketing Council (CSMC), replacing Arturo Clément who now sits as president of the industry association SalmonChile.

According to a report in mundoacuicola.cl, Garcìa was confirmed in an anonymous decision by the CSMC’s board of directors, who also named Luis Hernàn Bustos, a consultant and professor at Chile’s Catholic University, as a marketing and branding expert for the organization.

The outgoing president Clement said that the CSMC is happy with the changes, and that Garcìa would lead the CSMC in its efforts along with its dedicated general manager James Griffin, with an emphasis on the United States.

The CSMC will take the helm of marketing and commercial strategies in the U.S. market as part of an effort to increase its consumption and the value of Chile’s farmed salmon.

“We have a spectacular product, which is the most sustainable animal protein of all that are produced for human consumption, coming from a marvelous source and whose cultivation adheres to high quality standards” Garcìa said.

The U.S. accounts for 140 million kilos of consumed Chilean salmon and receives around 30 percent of the industry’s production, the report added.

The CSMC was formed by SalmonChile in March 2017 in an effort to educate receiving markets on the characteristics and qualities of Chilean salmon.
