Icelandic RFM program now ISO accredited

Iceland’s Responsible Fisheries Foundation (IRFF) has received international ISO/IEC Guide 65 accreditation for its Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) program.

The program is a government-sponsored sustainability certification program for Iceland’s fishing industry. It is based on the U.N.’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) standards for sustainable fishing. Iceland has already certified golden redfish and cod fisheries under the program. The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute created a similar program based on the same standards.

“This achievement puts us in a strong position to maintain and develop our program into the future, ensuring that it remains credible and continues to meet the needs of our clients,” Kristjan Thorarinsson, chair of the IRFF technical committee, said of the new accreditation.
