John West system now tracks more than tuna

John West, which made headlines last year when it allowed customers to trace canned tuna back to the ocean where it was caught and the boat that made the catch, is now expanding its tracking system to include other species.

The system, known as the “can tracker” application, will now include salmon, mackerel and sardines, allowing customers to trace the origins of those canned fish, too.

“The ‘Can Tracker’ was a UK first and its expansion to include all of our core products is yet another big step forward for us,” said Paul Reenan, managing director for John West. “Tracing the source of the fish we sell not only provides industry transparency but also increases consumer awareness and consciousness of the story behind every can.”

The 150-year-old company, in a release, indicated that John West will continue to improve its food supply chain to be more environmentally conscious.
