Joint patrols conducted by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents and NOAA Fisheries’ Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) resulted in citations for eight individuals.
All citations took place during two Joint Enforcement Agreement patrols conducted on 15 May. They include:
- A citation of an Ocean Springs, Mississippi, U.S.A. resident for shrimping in federal waters without a federal shrimp permit;
- A citation of a Denham Springs, Louisiana, U.S.A. resident for catching a shark without a highly migratory species permit;
- A citation of a Saucier, Mississippi resident for catching double the legal limit of recreational red snapper;
- A citation of a Houma, Louisiana resident for possessing a greater amberjack during a closed season;
- A citation of a Larose, Louisiana resident for possessing several yellowfin tuna without a highly migratory species charter/headboat permit;
- A citation of a River Ridge, Louisiana resident for possessing more than legal limit for recreational red snapper;
- A citation of a Franklin, Louisiana resident for possessing red snapper without a recreational or saltwater fishing license; and
- A citation of a Larose, Louisiana resident for possessing amberjack during a closed season and using reef fish as bait.
“All federal charges are referred to NOAA OLE to assess appropriate civil penalties,” LDFW said in a release.
