Mark Foods has become the 12th member of precompetitive collaborative group Sea Pact, the organization said in a press release.
Sea Pact was formed in 2013 to promote sector-based sustainability improvements across its membership and drive change. The group is supported by NGO advisors FishWise, Ocean Outcomes, and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.
“Mark Foods joining Sea Pact builds on the strong collaboration already underway across our membership,” Sea Pact Executive Director Sam Grimley said. “Their engagement and leadership adds valuable contributions to Sea Pact’s sustainability efforts and reinforces our shared commitment to responsible seafood.”
Mark Foods joins 11 other companies: Santa Monica Seafoods, Seattle Fish Company, Fortune Fish, Inland Foods, Euclid Fish Company, Seacore Seafood, J.J. McDonnell, Acme Smoked Fish, Oddisea SuperFrozen, Ipswich Shellfish Group, and North Atlantic Seafood.
“Joining Sea Pact is a natural step for Mark Foods as we continue to deepen our responsible sourcing commitment,” Mark Foods Partner Joe Weitzer said. “We value the opportunity to collaborate with other Sea Pact members and contribute to initiatives that support meaningful, industry-wide progress.”
Sea Pact said Mark Foods is already a longtime supporter of sustainability initiatives such as the Honduras Caribbean spiny lobster fishery improvement project and is also a supporter of initiatives through participation in the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership’s Global Octopus Supply Chian Roundtable.
Sea Pact said each new member adds to the organization’s expertise, strengthening its ability to foster change.
“With Mark Foods joining the coalition, we are expanding not only our membership but also the depth of expertise and collaboration available to support measurable improvements in fisheries and supply chains around the world,” Sea Pact said.
