Myfish Project produces newsletter

A program geared toward implementing the European Union's common fisheries policy (CFP) is releasing an online newsletter to promote its work.

The program, Myfish, is coordinated by the National Institute of Aquatic Resources at the Technical University of Denmark, and largely funded by the E.U.

The E.U. approved a recent revamping of the CFP, updating the document that guides rules and governance for European fisheries. The newsletter, Myfish Project News, will discuss the operational framework for implementing the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) in European waters.

"The Myfish project is now entering the second of its three phases: definition of MSY and the models needed to evaluate these, evaluation of the likely ecosystem and economic consequences of aiming for a specific version of MSY and finally, an evaluation of the likely social impact of this decision," said Anna Rindorf, the project's scientific coordinator.

The newsletter will also include previews of case studies that review new and existing measures for managing MSY.
